About me
Rae Garringer is a writer, oral historian, audio producer, and goat farmer based in southeastern West Virginia where they were raised. They are the author and editor of Country Queers: A Love Letter (Haymarket 2024) and the editor of To Belong Here: A New Generation of Queer, Trans, and Two-Spirit Appalachian Writers (University Press of Kentucky, 2025). Rae works with an intergenerational cross country team to produce The NERVE: Conversations with Movement Elders, a podcast from the National Council of Elders, and is a member of the Mapping Trans Joy team which is a trans run, joy-as-resistance project based in the U.S. South. When not working with stories Rae spends a lot of time failing at keeping goats in fences, two-stepping around their trailer, and swimming in the river.
